Economic analysis of current issues in commercial law

Objectives Students completing this subject should be able to (1) understand the elements of economic reasoning; (2) apply economic concepts to the analysis of a range of commercial law problems; and (3) engage in rigorous policy analysis of commercial law initiatives from an economic perspective.
Synopsis The subject will involve analysis, from an economic perspective, of six topics drawn from the following: fiduciary relationships, securities regulation, unconscionable transactions, product liability, the creation of intellectual property rights and reforms in designs and trademark law, legal regulation of secured financing transactions, insurance law, misleading conduct, corporate governance, standard form contracts, good faith in commercial dealings, contract remedies, uniformity in legislation.
Assessment Research paper (5000 words): 50% * Final examination (2 hours): 50%
