Objectives To give students a basic grounding in the principles of structural analysis. Students should be able to solve statically determinate structures. Given the results of an indeterminate analysis, students should be able to construct shear and moment diagrams for statically indeterminate beam and frame structures.

Synopsis Basic concepts of structural analysis. Analysis of statically determinate structures (classical and matrix formulations). Reaction forces for planar and non-planar structures. Member forces in trusses and truss-type space frameworks. Member forces/deflected shapes in beams and frame structures. Shear and moment diagrams and deflected shapes for statically determinate and indeterminate structures.

Assessment Examination: 70%
* Assignments: 30%
