Biological processes

Objectives The student is expected to develop an understanding of aspects of biological science of importance to many areas of chemical engineering practice.

Synopsis Chemistry and properties of major biological molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids vitamins. Enzymes. Cellular metabolism; regulation of metabolism. Microbial growth and its control; metabolic diversity; growth processes; environmental effects; suppression of growth. The scope of microbial biotechnology; important applications of microbial processes.

Assessment Examinations: 70% * Assignments: 30%
