Materials science and engineering

Objectives To gain an appreciation and understanding of the properties of materials important in engineering design.

Synopsis Mechanical properties of metals, fracture. Strength of engineering alloys. Structure and properties of steels. Welding of steel and aluminium. Selection of engineering materials. Mechanical properties of polymers. Corrosion of metals. Mechanical properties of ceramics.
