Technology and society

Objectives Whilst environmental issues have become prominent in recent times, there are other ways in which engineering impacts on the society and its environment and this is not a recent phenomenon. The intention of this subject is to discuss the technical activities of the engineering professional in the context of the broader social environment in which it exists, and its interaction with that society. At the end of the course, it is expected that students will have a heightened awareness of the social role of their profession.

Synopsis Content is variable depending on the availability of staff, and will consist of a selection from: history of engineering and technology; engineering and the environment; the law in engineering; and other specialist topics.

Assessment Examinations: 75% * Assignment: 25%
