Objectives Students are expected to acquire a good understanding of energy conversion processes, and the difference in their efficiencies. The successful student will be able to analyse standard energy conversion cycles, and will be skilled in measuring temperature, pressure, flow rates, etc. through laboratory experiments.
Synopsis Conventional systems of power generation and their optional equipment, including steam turbines, gas turbines and both spark ignition and compression ignition internal combustion engines; combustion; reversed cycles for heat pumps and refrigeration; solar/thermal energy conversion methods; introduction to photovoltaic energy conversion; thermal energy storage.
Assessment Examination: 70% * Laboratory work: 15% * Tests: 15%
