Engineering practices: design management
B T Kuhnell
6 points * 22 lectures, 24 tutorials * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: MEC3403
Objectives To acquire insight into theory and practice of design process (design review, failure analysis, product cycle, intellectual property and patents) and management of engineering projects (PERT, CPM, computer aided project planning). To develop sound understanding of modern methods and techniques used in manufacturing and maintenance engineering (group technology, JIT) and management of quality control (total quality approach). Further reinforce the concept that efficient solutions to engineering problems can be only obtained by applying a system approach combining a wide range of design, manufacturing and maintenance methods and techniques.
Synopsis Design and theory of machines; manufacturing methods, project management techniques (PERT), quality control.
Assessment Design projects: 60% * Test: 40%
