Engineering mathematics III

Objectives Students will extend their knowledge and understanding of calculus to cover vectors and complex numbers. They will also learn various methods of analysis and should understand under which conditions a particular method is applicable.
Synopsis The course consists of two components: vector analysis and complex analysis. The first part extends the integral concept in several directions. Functions in more than one variable will be integrated. Integration will take place not only over intervals of the real line, but also over curves, surfaces and solids in three-dimensional space. The second part focuses on the integration of functions in one complex variable with complex values. The techniques, some of which are quite sophisticated, can be used to evaluate difficult `ordinary' integrals.
Assessment Examinations (1.5 hours): 90% * Assignments: 10%
