Applied mechanics 2
N Di Toro
3 points * 20 lecture hours, 8 laboratory hours, 11 tutorial hours * Second semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: ENC1301
Objectives This subject is designed to develop skills and a fundamental understanding relating to the effect of acceleration and inertia on dynamic systems.
Synopsis Dynamics: definition of kinematics and kinetics, units. Kinematics of particles: rectilinear and curvilinear motion. Kinetics of particles: Newton's second law, concept of dynamic equilibrium (D'Alembert's principle); free body diagrams, friction force, non-uniform acceleration. Dynamics of rigid bodies: moment of inertia, linear and angular momentum, impulse and impact. Energy, work and power.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% * Laboratory work, class tests and problem solving: 30%
