Objectives The student is expected to acquire an understanding of the role of the engineer in society and to develop basic skills in design and drawing.

Synopsis Introduction to engineering design; problem formulation, data sources and accuracy in calculations, generating and selecting alternatives, engineering specifications and units. Economic and environmental factors in design. Characteristics of engineering branches; electrical/electronic, civil, mechanical, industrial engineering orientations. Engineering drawing
