Energy systems 1

Objectives Study of the fundamental principles of electromagnetic devices and the electromechanical conversion of energy. Analysis of the performance of rotating and linear electrical machines. Development of knowledge of practical aspects of design and construction of electrical machines.

Synopsis Three-phase induction motors; analysis, performance, testing and control. Single-phase induction motors. Linear motors. Stepper motors. Three-phase synchronous machines; cylindrical-rotor and salient-pole, prediction of performance, transient stability.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% * Class tests: 10% * Assignments and laboratory: 20%
