Manufacturing automation and control

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of digitally controlled automation related to manufacturing.

Synopsis Introduction to hydraulics, pneumatics and electronics used in automation; actuators, sensors and logic elements, digital electronics and microprocessors, digital control technology, digital interface components and systems, output signals, input signals. Stepper motors, DC motors, digital to analog and analog to digital converters, handshake, use of computers for automation, use of PLCs.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% * Assignments and tests: 30%
