Objectives The student is expected to acquire the skills and experience necessary to design and select simple machine components to perform satisfactorily, and if necessary to satisfy a standard code of practice.
Synopsis A selection of detailed design approaches chosen from the following lists. Design for tribology (wear and corrosion). Rolling element bearings. Boundary lubricated bearings, introduction to journal bearings and lubrication. Detailed design of spur gears. Design of gaskets and other seals. Computer aids in design. Preliminary design decisions. Optimisation in design. Design for reliability. Design of dynamic systems. Detailed design of structures and lifting equipment in accordance with Australian standard codes.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60% * Assignments and test: 40%
