Objectives The student is expected to gain an understanding of time dependent settlement of soil, its shear strength characteristics, the development of lateral stresses and the performance of foundations; geological factors significant to engineering sites, mechanics of rock materials and its reinforcement methods.
Synopsis Soil consolidation and shear strength; lateral earth pressures; foundation capacity and settlement. Geological assessment of engineering sites; rock mechanics, discontinuity analysis, rock reinforcement.
Assessment Examination: 80% * Assignments: 20%
