ISDN networks and applications

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic understanding of the characteristics, protocols and applications of narrowband and broadband ISDN networks.

Synopsis Overview of ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). ISDN services. ISDN architecture. ISDN protocols - LAP-D. Applications of primary and basic rate ISDN and broadband ISDN, terminal equipment for use with ISDN, case studies. All students will use ISDN protocol analysers and ISDN multiplex equipment. Common channel signalling - signalling system No. 7. Network performance analysis. ATM protocols.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 50% * Written: 50%
