Polymer composites for marine structures

Not offered in 1997

6 points * Irregular availability * Clayton

Objectives The student is expected to develop a knowledge and understanding of the fabrication, mechanical behaviour, experimental characterisation and design methodology for exploiting the anisotropic properties of polymer composites for use in marine structures.

Synopsis Introduction to composite materials and components; processing and fabrication; micro- and macro-mechanics; structural design; mechanical failure; experimental characterisation; damage tolerance; polymer composites in aggressive environments; foam sandwich construction; finite element analysis; laminate analysis; case studies in offshore polymer composites.

Assessment Examination: 60% * Assignments and seminars: 40%
