Mobile offshore structures
J Hinwood
6 points * Second semester * Clayton
Objectives To develop an understanding of the design challenges specific to moored, tethered and floating offshore installations; to develop a capability for determining the dynamic and fatigue loads for the purposes of structural design, and for assessing structural integrity.
Synopsis Factors in choice of system. Review of available systems: floating production/drill ship, moored systems, jack-up platforms, semi-submersibles, tension leg systems. Installation and towing. Technical aspects of systems: hydrodynamic response of floating and tethered systems, moorings, dynamic positioning, structural design, fatigue analysis, geotechnical design of tether anchorages and jack-up foundations.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 50% * Assignments and seminars: 50%
