Dynamics of structures

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a knowledge of advanced analysis techniques related to the behaviour of structures under dynamic loads. The student is expected to use computer programs to solve engineering dynamic problems.

Synopsis Methods of analysis for response of structures to dynamic loads including blast and earthquake. Numerical integration and eigen-value techniques. Finite element method. Introduction to random response. Use of computer programs throughout.

Assessment Examination (3 hours) 50% * Other assessment: 50%
