South Pacific Centre for School and Community Development

Peninsula campus

The South Pacific Centre for School and Community Development was established in 1988 with support from a grant by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation of Flint, Michigan. The major purpose of the centre is to promote school and community development in Australia and the South Pacific.

The centre has recently been involved in research related to community perceptions of recent Victorian school restructuring efforts, into issues related to school finance and on the professional development needs of adult and community educators.

The centre has managed regional and international conferences (including the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement, held at the World Congress Centre in January 1994), and has been involved in leadership training activities in Fiji and Thailand.

Conference papers have been presented in the US and Canada, the UK and Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and publications related to school effectiveness and community education have been published locally and internationally.

Since its inception, the centre has attracted funds from national and international sources including the Mott Foundation, the International Community Education Association, the AusAID and UNESCO.
