Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed knowledge and understandings of the concept of a profession and of the Australian early childhood code of ethics; developed understandings of strategies and skills which would enable them to work successfully as a member of a professional team in early childhood settings, with parents, management committees and sponsoring bodies, and other professionals in the community.

Synopsis This subject will examine the role of the early childhood teacher working as part of a community which might include parents, other professionals, students in training, management committees and sponsoring authorities. Students will consider the attributes and skills needed to be effective in this role including communication techniques, teamwork and leadership skills, coping strategies, stress management and personal development.

Assessment Written (1500-2000 words): 50%
* Examination: 50%
