Special education practicum

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed practical knowledge and understanding of professional ethics; assessment and evaluation; interviewing and reporting; the planning of individualised educational programs; instructional approaches.

Synopsis This subject requires students to attend introductory seminars and tutorials and to work with individual children or groups of children with special needs, their classroom teachers, their schools and families. The practicum requires a minimum of forty-five days of supervised practice. Placement A: students will work for fifteen days with special needs individuals in a specialised setting, eg Krongold Centre, Elwyn Morey Centre. Placement B: students will undertake a thirty-day program with a special needs child or group of children in a regular or special setting.

* Supervised practice demonstrating competence in teaching individuals with special needs
* Written reports: 100%
