Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to review the historical context of national and state provision of adult and vocational education and training; examine debates surrounding the introduction of current adult and vocational education and training policies; explore pedagogical issues and implications associated with current adult and vocational education and training policy; review the policy frameworks applying to adult and vocational provision in a range of workplace contexts - literacy, community education, secondary schools, labour market programs, TAFE Institutes; and analyse pedagogical practices which attempt to utilise the workplace environment and integrate work performance.
Synopsis This subject is designed for those who are interested, or are presently working, in educational contexts in which teaching and learning may be described as vocational and therefore work-related. It will focus on a set of government reports and governmental structures that play a role in structuring training reform. These reports will be studied as a way of identifying the key concepts that have made up the national training reform agenda. The social, political and economic imperatives that have shaped current educational policies will be analysed. This subject will also explore connections between policy and educational practice and administration.
