Teaching and curriculum studies 1B

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have reflected upon their own learning, skills and attitudes within the key curriculum areas of music, art and health and physical education; have experienced observation and understanding of children as learners with specific focus on these areas; have an understanding of the arts and physical education as an important feature of children's development; have developed personal confidence and a positive approach to children's development in art, music and health and physical education; have engaged in the development and/or enhancement of personal skills in each of the areas.

Synopsis This subject builds on the content of the prerequisite GEC1101 and examines three additional key curriculum areas in the teaching and curriculum sequence. Learners and the process of learning remain the thematic underpinning within the subject, with a focus on the areas of art, music and health and physical education. Students will engage in workshops to develop their own basic skills and understandings in the three subject areas and will observe learners (children and adolescents) in school settings as part of this subject.

Assessment Three assignments (each equivalent to 1000 words): 75%
* Practical tasks and observation: 25%
