Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should understand the basic concepts and structures of networks; understand the concept of electronic mail systems; have gained practical experience of electronic mail systems; have gained practical experience in presentation software applications; understand a conceptual model of the internet, hypermedia and multimedia; have gained practical experience in script programming and WEB authoring.
Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with an introduction to computer communications characteristics and applications and presentation software. Networks: hardware, software and topologies. Communications: transmission styles and protocols. Uses: electronic mail; the internet; bulletin boards and file transfers. Scripting languages and the design and maintenance of internet sites. Presentation: hypermedia, multimedia and presentation software.
Assessment Practical exercises: 40%
* Examination: 60%
