Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have examined and analysed the complex meaning of health; have an understanding of the factors that affect the health status of individuals; have an understanding of the factors that affect the health status of specific populations; be familiar with the indicators used to measure the health status of the Australian population; be aware of the problems associated with measuring health dimensions; have developed skills in presenting coherent oral and written argument that underpins a particular point of view.
Synopsis This subject examines the dimensions of health - physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and mental; factors that influence an individual's health status; and the factors that influence the health of specific populations (youth, women, aboriginal people);as well as indicators used to `measure' health.
Assessment Essay (2000 words): 60%
