Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to articulate a rationale for the teaching of technology in schools; conduct practical investigations designed to solve a range of problems; use a variety of media to report the outcomes of their investigations.
Synopsis This subject consists of four components: (1) a study of the rationale for school technology, understood as the application of knowledge and skills to practical problems either posed by the teacher or generated by the students' own inquiries; (2) the extension of the students' repertoire of practical skills in techniques and technologies ranging from woodworking to the use of computers to control models; (3) exploration of the extent to which theoretical problems can be resolved by practical investigations; (4) the development of report writing skills.
Assessment Assignment (3000 words): 70%
* Examination: 30%
