Objectives After completion of the subject students should understand both the GUI and multimedia development cycles and HCI design principles, and the variety of GUI styles; know about and be able to use techniques such as hierarchical and cognitive task analysis, and to map a conceptual design into a physical design to develop GUI and multimedia interfaces; and demonstrate a commitment to developing high-quality interfaces that will meet user requirements through the use of user involvement and quality review processes.
Synopsis An introduction to user interface design, and methodologies used in interface design. The subject provides students with a theoretical and practical exposure to the mainstream of design models and the principles of GUI and multimedia interface design. Students study the key concepts of human-computer interaction (HCI), and the factors that determine how people interact with a computer. The principles of how to make effective use of computer technology are examined. An overview is given of tools and techniques which help designers ensure that computer systems are suitable for given type of business processes.
Assessment Examination (2 hours): 60%
