Objectives At the completion of this subject students should know the characteristics of distributed software systems; know different programming languages and paradigms for distributed systems; and be able to use statistical techniques and parallel programming languages to design simulations of distributed systems.
Synopsis Basic characteristics of distributed software systems. Specification of distributed systems. Task partitioning and allocation. The construction of distributed software systems. The simulation of systems, and simulation methodology. The use of statistical techniques in designing and analysing simulations. Case studies drawn from distributed problem solving.
