Objectives At the completion of this subject students should understand the principles of computer hardware and its design; be familiar with the typical routines in computers; appreciate the structure and use of operating systems; and have been introduced to the role of specialised software.

Synopsis This subject provides an introduction to the principles and general use of computer information systems for business applications. Topics covered include introduction to information systems, computer hardware and software, overview of programming and computer languages, database management, use of microcomputer application software for business data processing including spreadsheets and database management systems.

Assessment Assignments: 40%
* Examination (2 hours): 60%
