Objectives At the completion of this subject students should understand the principles of interactive program design and development; understand and be able to implement common commercial processing algorithms; and be able to write, debug, test and document programs of a reasonably complex nature.
Synopsis The design, testing and implementation in COBOL 85 of batch and interactive commercial algorithms are explored in detail. Students are introduced to the issues involved in software interface design and development. The use of sequential, indexed and relative files is discussed. The implementation of data structures is introduced and information hiding in COBOL 85 is discussed. Concepts of data-driven, event-driven and transaction-driven programming are discussed. Issues in multi-user programming are considered.
