Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the basic principles of planning and execution of operational activities in organisations which manufacture and deliver goods and services to meet the needs of the market; understand the relationships between operations, financial performance and the business strategy of an organisation; and have experience in examining the operational activities of a specific organisation.
Synopsis Topics include general business activities, financial analysis, project management, manufacturing planning, management software, ISO 9000 standards for quality assurance, electronic data interchange, service issues and business strategy.
Assessment Written (software exercise plus case study or research
paper): 50%
* Examination (2 hours): 50%
* Both parts of the assessment
will allow students to concentrate on topics of interest
