Computer facilities and network management III

Objectives At the completion of this subject students should have a basic understanding of software and hardware specification, selection and acquisition; be familiar with computer standards and security; and have a knowledge of systems implementation and capacity planning; understand local area networks and their management; and have been introduced to some legal aspects.

Synopsis Specification, evaluation and acquisition of computer systems including feasibility studies, requirements specification, requests for tender, tender evaluation, software and hardware selection. Systems implementation. Capacity planning. Computer security. Computer standards. Local area network and network management will be introduced as well as the legal aspects of computer facilities and network management.

Assessment Written: 30%
* Examination (2 hours): 70%
