General

The Graduate Diploma in Retail and Wholesale Management is designed to cater for experienced retail managers, generally graduates from disciplines other than retail/marketing, who wish to undertake study in retail business subjects at the graduate level.

Course objectives

The objectives of the course focus on eight key areas of study through which the students will be able to:

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree in a discipline other than marketing/retail or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, plus a minimum of three years relevant employment experience, or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above. The course is offered off-campus and will therefore be available to retail managers based in retail or related service organisations anywhere in Australia or abroad. Applicants from abroad will need to meet the University's requirements regarding proficiency in English.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Syme Department of Marketing as to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in Retail and Wholesale Management is normally completed in four semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

The course is offered by distance education by the Syme Department of Marketing, Caulfield campus.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Professional recognition

The course is recognised by the Retailers' Council of Australia. Course graduates employed in the retail industry are eligible to apply for graduate membership.

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Retail and Wholesale Management with an average grade of credit or above may apply for admission to the Master of Business (Retail and Wholesale)*.
