General

This course offers specialised studies in banking and finance for people working in the financial services and corporate treasury sectors. The aim of the program is to provide candidates with the conceptual and managerial decision-making skills necessary for effective management in the continuously changing domestic and international financial market environment. Course intake is available semester one and semester two.

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution plus a minimum of two years relevant employment experience or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should refer to the Syme Department of Banking and Finance as to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance is normally completed in two semesters of full-time study or four semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

Evening classes are offered on-campus at the Caulfield campus.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be the equivalent of particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Professional recognition

The Australian Institute of Banking and Finance recognises this program as satisfying the educational requirements for advancement to senior associate status. Prospective applicants should contact the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance for details.

The program is based on an eight-unit structure, with two subjects of three class contact hours each week per thirteen-week semester of part-time study or four subjects per semester for full-time studies. The part-time sequence shown below is for a second-semester intake.

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance with an average grade of credit or above may apply for admission to the Master of Business (Banking and Finance). Students may also articulate to the Master of Banking.
