General

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is designed as a `conversion course' for those without tertiary qualifications in accounting.

Course objectives

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting program aims to develop and enhance students' knowledge and skills of accounting and related fields. The objectives of these intensive study programs are to offer graduates from non-accounting disciplines the opportunity to introduce and develop their knowledge of accounting and business-related disciplines.

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Syme Department of Accounting as to the 1997 course fees. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is normally completed in six semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

Classes are offered on-campus at the Caulfield campus in two block teaching sessions, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 6-10 pm and Saturday 9 am - 5 pm.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of five credit exemptions for subjects considered to be the equivalent of particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Professional recognition

Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Accounting will enable graduates to meet the academic requirements for admission to the CPA program of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants and the professional year program of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Course structure

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Accounting at the required standard may apply for admission to the Master of Practising Accounting or Master of Business (Accounting).
