General

This four-subject course has been designed to allow employers the opportunity to sponsor their senior managers into a four-unit graduate certificate. Companies that wish to encourage their managers to study in graduate diploma or masters programs can use this course as a useful starting point for those who wish to continue with higher study and as a useful exit point for those requiring specific educational programs.

The Graduate Certificate of Business will enable employers to select the four subjects from any of the graduate diploma programs in the Syme Department of Accounting, Syme Department of Banking and Finance, Department of Business Management, and Syme Department of Marketing in the Faculty of Business and Economics which are most appropriate for their managers.

Both the Graduate Certificate of Business and the Graduate Certificate in Management have been specifically designed to enable employers to sponsor their middle to senior managers for an accredited qualification.

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution plus a minimum of two years relevant employment experience. Applicants without a first degree who have a minimum of six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Business Management as to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Certificate of Business is normally completed in one semester of full-time study or two semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

This course is offered either on-campus at the Caulfield campus or in-house, at an alternative venue as required.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of two credit exemptions for subjects considered to be the equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Course structure

Completion of the graduate certificate will require a pass grade in four subjects selected from graduate programs offered by the Syme Department of Accounting, Syme Department of Banking and Finance, Department of Business Management, and Syme Department of Marketing in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Where the graduate certificate is conducted in-house, the client shall determine the selection of subjects making up the graduate certificate.

Candidates for the graduate certificate must complete all subject prerequisites as specified in the details of subjects, to the satisfaction of the course leader.
