Prerequisite: acceptance for Bachelor of Business (Honours) program
Objectives Students will develop skills in applying economic principles to evaluate contemporary economic policy issues. Business students will broaden their understanding of the economic environment through critical analysis of current economic reforms in the public sector and evolving changes in the relationship between the public and private sectors of the economy. An emphasis on independent learning will enhance research skills, the ability to critically evaluate issues and to communicate results.
Synopsis The subject will examine the theory and practice of institutional changes in economic mechanisms, including forms of ownership and governmental regulation and deregulation of the public and corporate sectors. Special attention will be given to analysing issues of privatisation and deregulation in Australia from the point of view of contemporary economic theory.
