Objectives The subject is directed to providing an understanding of theoretical concepts underlying the design, development, organisation and maintenance of training and development programs within organisational and broader environments. Students will explore the links between an organisational business plan and training and development strategies, and will develop skills in identifying training needs and implementing training programs. The subject aims also to cultivate appropriate attitudes with respect to statutory obligations, competency-based training, and training for quality management.

Synopsis The subject covers the concepts of training and development, with specific reference to contemporary issues. It deals with `hands-on' skills required by trainers in dealing with the strategic training issues facing organisations beyond the year 2000.

Assessment (on campus) Written (4000 words): 40%
* Tutorial: 10%
* Examination (3 hours): 50%
* Students must obtain a satisfactory result in all areas of assessment.
