Survey methods and managerial statistics

* Prerequisite: ECM1031 with division I pass or ECM1032 with credit

Objectives On completion of this subject students should have developed an understanding of the skills required to conduct and analyse data from sample surveys; have developed skills required to apply statistical techniques to the field of total quality management and be familiar with appropriate techniques to analyse `ranked data'.

Synopsis This subject introduces sample survey methods, quality management and statistical techniques for survey data used in business, industry and the public sector. Topics covered include the planning and execution of a survey, sampling methods, quality management and sampling, the design of experiments, analysis of variance and analysis of `ranked data'. Statistical software will be utilised during this subject and students will apply the statistical techniques to a variety of practical problems.

Assessment Written (2 assignments [computing and report]): 40%
* Examinations (2 hours): 60%
