MGC5990

Health industry-based learning

Mr Anthony Harris

10-week practicum
* Summer semester
* Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of seven subjects in the Graduate Diploma in Health Economics and Evaluation.

Objectives To provide some basic research training and an introduction to applied research in the field of health economics; to allow the student to apply the principles taught in the subject to policy and research questions.

Synopsis Students will be required to spend a minimum of ten working weeks in an approved organisation to undertake a period of industry-based learning. This project must be approved by the course coordinator. During this time, their employer will provide them with a practical project designed to reinforce principles taught during the coursework component of the Graduate Diploma in Health Economics and Evaluation. Working in a relevant setting accelerates learning, encourages understanding and gives practical breadth to theoretical concepts. The subject coordinator will normally liaise with the nominated supervisor at the place of work during the period of assignment and discuss progress with student, employer and local supervisor.

Assessment Written (assignment 8000 words): 100%
