Objectives: On completion of this subject students should have enhanced their understanding of the international business environment; developed, through direct experience, a greater understanding of cultural differences and the way in which they might impact international management; improved their communication and interaction skills to provide for better management in a multicultural environment; gained an understanding of the place of qualitative research in international management and have gained some experience in comparatives analysis.
Synopsis This subject is designed to enable students to build on the theoretical knowledge gained throughout their course by observing first hand the range of management practices, business operations and cultures which impact on international management. It will provide students with the opportunity to carry out comparative analyses between countries and to determine consistencies (inconsistencies) between practice and the literature.
Assessment Written assignment (5000 words): 50%
* Tutorial
presentation (30 minutes): 10%
* Background paper to presentation: 15%
* Communication and interpersonal skills (includes interview skills,
cultural sensitivity and tutorial participation): 25%.
