Overseas study in international and comparative management

* Note: it is strongly recommended that students wishing to take this subject do so after completion of at least two other international business offerings

Objectives On completion of this subject students should have tested the theoretical frameworks studied in other international management courses undertaken; improved their competency to develop and implement international and global business strategies; enhanced their understanding of the international business environment; developed, through direct experience, a greater understanding of cultural differences and the way in which they might impact upon international management; improved their communication and interaction skills to provide better management in their current workplaces; gained a greater understanding of international management research techniques; prepared a comparative analysis.

Synopsis This subject is designed to enable students to build on the theoretical knowledge gained throughout their course by observing first hand the range of management practices, business operations and cultures which impact on international management. It will provide students with the opportunity to carry out comparative analyses between countries and to determine consistencies (inconsistencies) between practice and the literature.

Assessment Major assignment (6000 word paper): 50%
* Tutorial presentation (30 minutes): 10%
* Background paper to presentation: 15%
* Communication and interpersonal skills (includes interview skills, cultural sensitivity and tutorial participation): 25%
