Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will have acquired the skills, techniques and knowledge necessary to engage in advocacy and /or negotiations in the Australian industrial relations system.
Synopsis This subject builds on previous subjects in employee and industrial relations and focuses on the development of practitioner skills. Topics will include research skills; preparation and presentation of cases and submissions before industrial relations and other administrative tribunals; negotiation and administration of the collective agreement. Among the specific issues dealt with are bargaining units; grievance and disciplinary procedures; unfair dismissals; strategy and tactics in industrial negotiations; management and union rights; drafting the collective agreement.
