Objectives On completion of this subject, students should be able to recognise the legal rights and obligations of those involved in key areas of business; understand and be able to identify, use and evaluate legal concepts underlying business decisions and relationships; demonstrate an ability to undertake independent research on a selected, contemporary legal topic; have developed a critical awareness of reform proposals and current developments in commercial law.
Synopsis This subject provides an introduction to the Australian legal system with special emphasis on the legal environment of business. It involves a study of topics chosen from the law of negligence, the law of contract and consumer transactions, manufacturers' obligations, insurance, cheques and banking law, agency, restrictive, trade practices, intellectual property, directors' duties, creditors' rights and insolvency, international trade law, forms of business organisation.
