Objectives On completion of this subject students should have an understanding of key issues in the current theory and practice of public sector human resource management; an appreciation of a range of human resource systems and strategies which can be utilised in modern public sector organisations; the capacity to apply their understanding of contemporary public sector human resource management to emerging trends in the management of the public sector.
Synopsis This subject concentrates on contemporary human resource management issues which are part of the current transformation of the Commonwealth and State public sectors. Topics covered include performance management, senior executive service systems, classification structures and systems, employee relations, contracts, training and development, and aspects of the HRM legal framework - for example, grievance systems, equal opportunity and affirmative action.
