Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to analyse the legal concepts underlying financial decisions, transactions and relationships; understand the rights and obligations of those involved in financial decisions; have developed a legal perspective to assist in financial decision-making; be able to define the legal background for the resolution of business problems involving financial relationships.
Synopsis This subject examines aspects of the legal environment that affect financial decisions, transactions and relationships. Topics covered are chosen from the laws regulating the financing implications of different forms of business organisation; financial institutions; cheques, banking and the banker-customer relationship; other negotiable instruments; the laws regulating business finance and security; hire-purchase and consumer credit; guarantees; bankruptcy and insolvency law, and debt recovery.
Assessment Written (2000 words): 25%
