Objectives At the end of this subject students will have gained an understanding of the systemic characteristics of the transport function and the regulatory environment in which transport in Australia needs to be managed.
Synopsis Students should be able to show an understanding of the regulatory environment in which transport in Australia needs to be managed; select the most appropriate international or domestic transport mode and carrier for a given task; explain the documentation used in transport, especially international transport; decide whether to own or contract the transport function; decide when to replace a vehicle cost-effectively; manage the transport-warehouse interface; calculate the optimum number of vehicle docks for a warehouse; negotiate effectively for freight rates, transport services or vehicles; measure performance of the transport function; use a range of quantitative techniques to meet the above objectives.
