Objectives On completion of this subject students should have effectively developed an understanding of fundamental principles which will form the basis for an understanding of the strategic management issues facing IT managers; and understanding of a systems context with an emphasis on re-engineering for strategic advantage.

Synopsis Basic strategic management concepts, competitive and comparative position of the firm, strategic analysis of the firm, critical success factors, competitive advantage, structure, reward, and control systems. Issues facing IT managers, approaches to handling complexity, current issues in IT management. Business redesign for competitive advantage.

Assessment Case studies: 30%
