Objectives Develop an understanding of the principles and scope of operations research and the potential for its application in manufacturing. Develop an awareness of software packages commonly employed in manufacturing operations; develop an ability to select a method of solution for a specific problem; develop an understanding of quantitative forecasting techniques, and the ability to select a forecasting model for a specific set of data; utilise linear programming techniques, process simulation techniques and project management techniques in a manufacturing environment.
Synopsis Introduction to the principles of operations research and its application, using computer software packages, to typical manufacturing problems; linear programming applications such as the optimisation of a distribution network will be demonstrated; the principles and application of simulation to manufacturing; advanced forecasting methods as applicable in manufacturing.
