General

The Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) is designed primarily for graduates who wish to increase their knowledge of management theory and practice. The course makes extensive use of case studies, in-house situations and workplace projects with a particular focus on Australia's current economic and social climate.

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution plus a minimum of three years relevant employment experience, or an executive certificate offered by this faculty completed with an average grade of credit or above.

Technology requirements

It is recommended that students have access to a personal computer. (Please note that the School of Business and Electronic Commerce operates in an IBM-compatible Windows environment.) It is also strongly recommended that students have access to a modem to facilitate e-mail communication with teaching staff.

Fees

This course is a fee-paying graduate course for which no additional liability under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) will be incurred. For a student undertaking the normal workload of two subjects per semester, fees of $800 per subject will apply. An additional fee will also apply for amenities and library services. Fees paid may be tax deductible in accordance with Section 51(i) of the Income Tax Assessment Act, but students will need to determine their own tax position. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) is normally completed in four semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

This course is offered by distance education from the School of Business and Electronic Commerce.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Course structure

Normally, subjects are completed at a rate of two subjects in each of four successive semesters and each subject involves an average of twelve hours of study per week. Flexibility is ensured by permitting completion of two elective subjects in areas of professional focus.

There are six common core subjects, five of which normally will be satisfactorily completed prior to the integrating strategic management subject GBU8005:

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) at the required standard may be eligible for admission to the Master of Management degree offered by the Department of Business (Management), Caulfield campus or the MBA program offered by Monash Mt Eliza Business School. In some instances students may be eligible for admission to a masters degree by research.

Application procedures

Applications close the first week in February (first intake) and the first week in June (second intake). Fees are payable on acceptance of an offer. An administration fee is payable for those students who withdraw from the course before 31 March (first intake) and 31 August (second intake).
